How thick should your carpentry be?

Sometimes, your ID may not say what thickness they are going to use, and nobody knows what the right thickness should be.

Watch our tiktok channel if you lazy to read.

In Singapore the 3 standard carpentry thickness are: 12mm, 15mm & 18mm.

For carpentry doors, the standard thickness is 18mm.

For shelves, most people will use 15mm. Gone are the days where 12mm are used as it is too thin and flimsy, while 18mm is not really needed unless you plan to put heavier items, or just like it thicker. 15mm is just nice.

For carpentry carcass (i.e. the outside of your carpentry body), it is usually 15mm as well.

So we recommend you check with your ID what thickness is provided in your quote and let them know your intended use for each carpentry item in case you need to go for a thicker option.

But of course, if you want it thicker than the standard, you have to pay more.
