Why Focus is so Underrated in Reno (& Life)
Ever heard of this phrase 华而不实? This is one of the most important lesson we have learnt in our past 3 years, be it for ourselves, for IDs, for homeowners, or for those in the corporate world.
Its the power, and discipline to focus, instead of scattering seeds everywhere.
Watch our tiktok channel if you lazy to read.
Let us explain by telling you about one of the most successful IDs we’ve worked with, Evelyn.
She’s not those flashy IDs with rolex watches and can paint the sky pink.
She’s an auntie.
Her design isn’t what most would call groundbreaking and she’s what people typically call a contractor. But hear us out, she stands out for two big reasons.
1. Transparent Pricing
There’s no hidden cost here or sneaky add-ons. She’s upfront about her 20% margin and that’s it — no greed, no gimmicks. So for many homeowners, this kind of transparency is refreshing, and it’s a big reason why she’s so popular.
2. Focus
This is the crux.
Most IDs take on as many leads as possible, and hope that one or two will stick. Sorta like a scattergun.
But she, on the other hand, takes only a handful, and services her best for each. Only if the homeowner rejects her will she free up the slot for other homeowners. As a result, her quotes are about 90% accurate one because she’s good at catching things that other IDs might miss such as higher ceiling.
If we contrast both ways, it is clear which method homeowners prefer; which also explains why her customer flow and referrals are always strong, while many IDs fail in this.
Why Focus is So Important
Now, the reason we’re sharing this is because of the difficulty in life to focus. In today’s world, it’s very easily to get caught up in the pressure to do more side hustles “and see what sticks” or more projects at work “to gain exposure”.
The reality is many of us spend 20% of our effort on each initiative, and when it fails we normalise it.
Then as we wander, we become more and more unpolished in what our strengths were to begin with — which happens to be one of the biggest trap in our society these days.
So this is definitely a reminder for us as well, even when we believe that this homeownership journey has many areas that can be value-added.
Just take our home loan initiative, for example. We started it because we see real, monetary value for homeowners.
But then one of contractors told us, we cannot forget our 初终, to fix the renovation industry, and we couldn’t agree more.
So all additional things we do in our business have always been to complement our 初终, rather than distract from it.

If you think focusing on one or two things is easy, let us tell you that it’s definitely more difficult to focus on one, two or three things and do it well, than to do 10 things and be a master of none.
We really like this quote from our follower. “Fear a man who train 1 punch 100 times instead of him who trains 100 types of punches once.” So focus on the things that matter most and do them well because many a times, less really is more.
