Horror Reno Stories Ep 1

In-person renovation reviews are important for us to truly filter the good vs bad renovation firms.

Some of the reviews we got were clearly contradictory to what was written online.

There was a company that wanted to work with us and was rated 4.8 stars online by “homeowners”.

Nevertheless, we requested for 20 of their past projects to review directly with the homeowners.

Turns out, it was pretty bad.

This is just one of the multiple poor review from the homeowners.

First, they were supposed to be interior designers, but they were more like main contractors. When asked about design and ideas, they will just say “I don’t know”. Imagine this happening every time a question is asked.

Second, the process required constant scrutiny from the client, because the ID kept screwing things up. The most infuriating of them was this existing beautiful wooden door, which they specifically mentioned not to touch countless times, and the painters still painted over it.

Obviously it was a mistake, and the client went to find the ID, who then replied unapologetically “oh, complementary door painting services.”

Another example, their new cabinets had puddles of water after the supposed cleaning of house was completed by them. The ID then said “i help u clean again”. Once again, unapologetically.

In the end, the ID that was supposed to manage the entire project, became part of a bigger problem.

When we asked why they still went with them in the first place? They shared that it was due to the “good” online reviews and in hope that the initial impression was just a misconception.

Not the worst renovation story, but clearly one that many can identify with.
