Key Renovation Tips
Windows Remodelling
The original windows is same as that across the flat, half casement & half louvres, which is…. retro at best.
As such, the owners wanted to remodel it into a full-height casement window, which is more modern & luxurious.
If you want to change your windows format, it is subjected to HDB’s & Professional Engineer’s (PE) endorsement. It is not automatically approved. Hence, do engage a HDB-approved windows contractor and cater time for this approval.
Wall-Hung Toilet
Another important aspect of this renovation is the wall-hung toilet. If you can see, this is the kind that you’ll usually find in five-star hotels—everything looks cleaner, and it gives off a more luxurious feel.
The important thing to note is how this is constructed. You will need to run the pipes behind exposed, install the wall-hung bracket (the connector between the toilet bowl and discharge pipe), and erect a false wall to “conceal” these.
This leads to higher renovation cost from (i) the wall-hung toilet bracket (ii) the false wall and (iii) additional labour cost charged by plumber. On average, it costs around $600-$800 more for (ii) and (iii).
