Account for CNY Break in Your Reno Timeline
CNY is important for all of us, but it is even more important for those in the renovation industry.
Watch our tiktok channel if you lazy to read.
While most of us think of the year-end as December 31st, the real year-end for the reno industry happens during CNY. During this time, the entire industry basically shuts down for two weeks.
Yep, no one is working.
Why? Because a huge chunk of the workforce is made up of Malaysians and other foreign workers.
And during CNY, they all head back to their kampongs to celebrate with their families.
Hence, over time, the industry takes this 2 weeks as their rest period.
Which is also why IDs tend to rush for project completion before the start of CNY, and will only start trickling back to work around the 7th or 8th day of CNY (that’s 初七 or 初八).
But what does this mean for you, the homeowner?
1) Cut them some slack, okay?
Everyone can do with a well-earned break after working their butts off all years. I’m sure you wouldn’t appreciate it if your boss kept texting you while you’re on leave, right? Same goes for them. They’re humans too, not robots.
2) If you’re planning a renovation, please factor in this two-week break, especially if you are rushing.
If you don’t account for this downtime, you’re gonna be stuck in a situation where you “叫天不应,叫地不灵”.
Trust us, you don’t want to be that person.
So, there you have it. Your ID or contractor might not be ghosting you—they’re just enjoying their well-deserved break. Be kind, plan ahead, and maybe use this time to binge-watch some home renovation shows for inspiration.
Happy CNY, and may your renovation journey be smooth sailing (after the break, of course)! 🧧
