Design portfolio traps to look out for

When choosing an ID for your reno, the first thing homeowners usually do is to scroll through ID firms’ online portfolio like their Instagram page. Here are 2 major and common traps to look out for.

Watch our tiktok channel if you lazy to read.

Trap #1: Is this photo a 3D render or a real photo?

There are many ID firms out there, their whole IG page looks super chio. But upon closer look, it’s actually all 3D renders and not real photos.

Take a look at the photos below. Can you tell which is which?

Sometimes it can be very hard to tell the difference; 3D renders can look very real too. But a 3D render, while chio, does not accurately reflect how the completed reno will look like. Real photos are more reliable.

Trap #2: Who really did this reno?

Let’s say you are scrolling through IG and see a reno post you like. But when you enquire with the ID firm, 90% of the time the person servicing you will not be the same person who did the reno of the post you saw.

The bigger the firm, the more likely this is to happen.

The most fool-proof way is to meet the ID in real life and get contemporaneous proof i.e. ask to see real photos of their work on their phone right there and then.

This is why we painstakingly vet each of our IDs individually before referring them to any of our homeowners.
