Renovation pricing is an art and science on its own, with contractors & IDs being able to set their price and letting homeowners decide if they are agreeable to it or not.

We have interviewed many renovators, and this is something they have said in common when it comes to pricing.

Whenever they meet someone who is extremely picky or difficult to deal with, they will mark the price up higher.

The main rationale is to cover back potential future losses due to customer dissatisfaction.

For example, a kitchen cabinet that is initially priced at $5,000 might be now priced at over $6,000. Many contractors know that if the homeowner decides to kick a fuss at the end of the renovation, they might have to re-do the cabinet.

This means tearing it down and re-fabricating/installing it, at their own expense, as they don’t want to spoil their reputation (unless those lousy ones la).

With this in mind, they will price higher to protect themselves, rather than for their own profit, and we can understand where they are coming from.

Furthermore, post-renovation service is extremely crucial.

If you are difficult to deal with, the likelihood of the renovators to come back and meet you is definitely much lower.

You might then have to incur further costs to remediate the scenario.

All-in-all, try to be nice to them, even if you can’t tahan, unless you have money to spare.
