Bathroom Niche, Elegant But Not Flawless
There’s no denying that a shower niche adds a touch of sophistication to any bathroom. It’s a seamless way to:
Hide the unsightly sewage pipes.
Create storage space for your shampoo, soap, and other shower essentials.
Keep your bathroom looking clean and clutter-free.
It involves erecting a false wall using partition boards or hollow blocks, covering it with tiles, and leaving an “indent” into the “wall”, hence called a bathroom niche.
But if you’re someone who can’t stand the sight of grimy corners turning yellow or accumulating dirt, this might not be for you.

That’s because no matter how much you clean your shower niche, water will inevitably accumulate in the corners. And over time, those corners will start to turn yellow and dirty.
For homeowners that care about functionality, and not so much about design aesthetics, our advice is simple: skip the niche and opt for those shower rack instead.
It’s easier to clean, less prone to discoloration, and won’t leave you frustrated every time you step into the shower.
On average, a shower niche will set you back around $800-$900 per niche.
The actual cost depends on the eventual “design” of the niche. If you want multiple niches, meaning more “holes” in your wall, the higher the cost, and also the more corners there will be, increasing the “yellow-able” areas.
Of course, if you want the design and the functionality, you can spend even more by applying epoxy grout or even marble gum along the lines.
That being said, the yellowing process will still happen. It will take longer, but it’s inevitable.
Now, here’s a little loophole for those of you who love the idea of a shower niche but hate the thought of visible dirt. If you’re planning a dark-coloured bathroom theme, a shower niche might still work for you.
Why? Because even if the corners get dirty or yellow, you won’t be able to see it as easily. Problem solved (kind of).
