Common causes of renovation delays
It is not always because “my ID was damn bad”. Sometimes, you play a part too.

On average, renovation should take 2 to 3 months to complete. However, sometimes it takes longer than that.
There are three common areas that cause this delay, outside of having a shitty ID.
1) 3D drawings
Some homeowners insist on completing the entire 3D drawings, before starting the works.
Not wrong, the delay comes when the homeowner is unsatisfied with the 3D drawings.
This results in multiple iterations, after which some homeowners still find lacking, and refuse to commence works.
2) Accessories & Fittings
This is the most common reason hands-down.
Everybody is ordering their accessories (eg. bathroom sanitary, lightings etc) from taobao these days. Or at least from overseas.
And obviously right, because it is so much cheaper.
Issue is these accessories need time to be shipped, often taking at least 3 weeks.
If the ID and homeowner don’t communicate well, homeowers might not know that they are able to start the shipment. No shipment, no installation, and obviously delays ensue.
Typically, we will recommend to start shipping once tiling works are almost done.
There is also the issue of these accessories malfunctioning upon arrival, resulting in a re-shipment required.
3) Indecisiveness
IDs hate this the most.
Some homeowners just can’t make up their mind on what works to be done.
Should they install false ceiling or not? Should they choose this laminate or not? Should they choose this tile or not?
The moment IDs or contractors know the homeowners are indecisive, they gradually become more hesitate to proceed, often double-checking and triple-checking before proceeding.
As a result, the planning of manpower to carry out the works gets delayed significantly.
In short, this article is most useful for those who are running on a tight schedule, or are crazy planners and need everything to follow their timeline.
If you are one of these people, better plan early and avoid these pitfalls!
