Why we help all our homeowners review quotation

It is to help homeowners, but also to help us as well.

Renovation quotations are an absolute nightmare for homeowners to look at, as it is filled with jargons and smokes & mirrors. Often, these comparisons can take hours to look at, and homeowners can still land at the wrong conclusion.

As we see quotations day-in, day-out, this has become a staple for us.

Our goal is to drive reliable and fairly-priced renovation experiences for all homeowners.

By reviewing quotations for homeowners, it helps us to ensure this “fairly-priced” portion of our goal.

1) We can tell homeowners if they are fairly charged

Recently, there was a homeowner who asked us to compare 3 quotes, of which 1 was referred by us. Two of them were fine, the one that stood out was the 3rd quotation (not by us).

In the 3rd quotation, the prices were much higher. For example, vanilla carpentry was going at $400+ pfr (vs $320-$340 pfr), while electrical power points were going for $120-$130 (vs $70-$80) per point.

The homeowner, in fact, wanted to go with this 3rd firm as the firm was “big and reputable” and she thought the other two firms might be “too cheap to be true”.

Sometimes, IDs might price higher if they are more experienced or senior. In this case, the 3rd quotation was done up by an ID of 2 or 3 years experience only.

This is a clear example of how muddled the truth can be in the renovation industry, and why rather than them spending hours to look at it, we can just help them in a much shorter timeframe.

2) We can monitor the renovation firms we refer homeowners

While we have done our due diligence before onboarding them, constant monitoring is also required, to minimise any potential overcharging.

By sharing the quotations with us, we can keep the renovation firms and their respective IDs in check, by ensuring that the quoted prices are reasonable from our point of view, as we drive towards our goal.

3) We have the motivation to keep Deconstruct going

The more we see such overcharging and full-of-shit IDs/contractors, the more we feel validated that we are solving a real industry-wide problem.

Furthermore, we genuinely feel satisfied when we know that we have helped homeowners save money and enjoy their renovation experience.

We are not saints, but having a goal to drive towards always helps as we build a reliable branding and accreditation going forward in 2024.
